Choosing Between Loose Aggressive and Tight Aggressive
Would you be a loose aggressive player or a tight aggressive one? If you are undecided, here’s a scenario to help you make up your mind. Alex and Mac are two brothers who play poker. Though very caring siblings, Mac is reluctant to play with Alex.
To know why he chooses other players, let’s take a look at what traits the two brothers have in common. Both are cut-throat aggressive players and the matter ends there.
While Alex uses traps to catch his opponents unawares, Mac suddenly attacks the pot using a lot of chips. This difference should be apt enough to highlight the type of players the two brothers are in poker.
Alex is a tight aggressive player who does not take undue risks or shells out his chips. He waits to catch his opponents and take their chips. Mac however, is a loose aggressive player who loves being in decision pots and in the limelight as well.
Both are focussed and extremely diligent in their work. Mac for instance, knows the timings to place the chips. Although he shells out a lot of chips at one go, it is always well calculated. As he is quite successful in his job, other players fear for his aggressive moves. The players also cannot put Mac on a hand very easily.
But Mac knows the limitations of being a loose aggressor. He would either win or lose in poker with a great margin. If he encounters another formidable aggressor who gets a good hand, he would be routed.
That’s the reason why Mac does not like playing with Alex. Mac knows that Alex would pick his spot and trap him to get the chips once he gets a good hand. And, Mac is not ready to fall into this catch.
In a nutshell, here’s what you can do. Choose loose aggressive play if you want to be table caption. Else, be tight aggressor.
